Celebrity Look Alike

Since I have my School key attached to my badge,
I now strike a remarkable resemblance to
The Joker character in The Dark Knight.

 Why So SERIOUS?

Love and Basketball

Chase and I were given tickets to a college basketball game at Wake Forest. A couple things came up around town and we almost decided not to go but sometimes you just have the need to do something out of the ordinary. We made the choice to stick with our date day, away from Salisbury and all of the things that keep us occupied throughout the week. It was completely worth it! And not just because they had ice cream in their team colors.

One thing we've learned in our fairly green marriage is that time alone and totally void of everyday thoughts has to be a priority. Nights relaxing at home and dinner dates at our regular spots are always nice but every once in a blue moon we like to get out of town. Maybe it's just the symbolism of it all...out of sight out of mind. Either way, we enjoyed our Salisbury free afternoon, just the two of us!

Dream Come True!

Sunday night my dream for Willow's first Winter came true!! IT SNOWED!!! I knew she would love it but did not expect her to become so hyper.  She was running circles around us and trying to eat the snowflakes like a bundled up little kid.
Finally she just laid face down in it, like
"Awww this is the life.
Why haven't you guys shown me this stuff before?
It's the best!!!"

Cutting Out Cancer!

Thursday night we had a donating dinner!

What a fun journey!
Since the first hair donation post in December,
I have lost 8 inches of hair and gained 80 inches of ponytail.

TEN girls in the Salisbury Area decided to make the courageous cut.
Boys might not understand but this is a nerve racking decision.
I am so proud of each girl for making such an awesome contribution!
10 ponytails = over one and a half wigs!!
Huge THANKS to Cut Up & Dye
They gave us amazing styles
not to mention tons of laughs and smiles!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Fave Scene: This book starts off differently than the others. It begins in a little village we've never heard of and with a little old man we've never met. The house belongs to The Riddle's, relation of a character from book 2. This opening scene is very grim for the little old man and Harry Potter. Several mysteries first take root in the readers mind and won't be fulfilled until the end of the book.
  • Fave Character: Hermione rose to the forefront in this book. She has always been a key character but her need to overachieve in school marred her other virtues in my mind. In this book, she focuses her tenacity for school work toward a moral cause. I love her compassion and determination for the house elves. During Harry's most difficult time at Hogwart's, Hermione stands by him even though everyone else has turned their back on him. Hermione becomes more personable throughout the fourth book. By the end, she seemed like a friend I'd love to have rather than an obnoxious smarty pants.
  • Fave Magical Item: Moody's magical eye that can see through anything, even the back of his head!!

Bang Braid!!
This lovely little French Braid allows you to be bang-less, if you get tired of your bangs for a day. I like to braid the pieces under one another to make the braid stand out better.
When you French Braid you can braid the pieces over the top of each other or under each piece. It gives the braid a subtle difference.

Lace Braid!
I saw this braid on Pinterest a few months ago and loved it.
The under side is a regular braid.
The top side is like a french braid, you add pieces of hair into it.
Basically, you only add new pieces of hair into one side of the braid.
The other side you skip that step and just continue to braid it without adding new pieces of hair.

Valentine's Eve

Despite waking up tired and groggy, today broke the mold for Mondays! I enjoyed my time at work, took a nice walk in the evening with Chase and Willow, then ate at CiCi's with a huge crowd that showed up to support a little girl from church who has been diagnosed with diabetes.  For more info or ways to help visit her Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/groups/298045536912827/

Monday Night: CiCi's Fundraiser for little Abigail...so adorable!
Sunday: first day of Red and Pink Week!!
Willow loves family time!!

Red and Pink Week!

For the past several years, my sister and I have celebrated Valentine's Day by wearing something red or pink all week.  I'm not totally sure how it started, other than when I was in high school, my mom bought me a shirt with lips all over it.  I loved it so much.  The lip shirt kind of birthed my love for wearing Valentine's themed clothing, that combined with our love for celebrating things lead to Red and Pink Week!!

The legendary lip shirt!!

One of many self timer photo shoots.

Picking out creative outfits,
accessorizing them for the week,
and sharing the fun with Andrea
make this week one I always look forward to.

Feel free to join us...
I know you have at least one
perfect Valentine's Day outfit.
We're wearing red and pink from
Sunday the 12th to Sunday the 19th.

Xalt joining in the FUN!
I love my little sister!!

French Braid!!!
I owe my obsession with the french braid to my mother!! When I was a little girl and for all my high school dances...and important college banquets, my mom did my hair, often in braids. She would take creative license and (not to brag but) my hair was the belle of the ball. I think that's why I'm pretty unique with my hair...I'll try anything. But today, the classic French Braid prevails!

Advocare!!

I mentioned Advocare in the post Wow! This past month I have been doing the 24 day challenge. It consists of a 10 day cleanse then 14 days of what can best be described as training.
During this time the diet is restricted from wheat, sweets, meat that isn't lean, and dairy.
It has been a challenge but now I have healthier eating habits.

Advocare Lessons Learned:
  • Fruit can be filling for breakfast
  • Hummus isn't too bad but warm it up
  • Natural Peanut Butter on a Carmel Rice Cake is a great snack
  • Chicken and fish are meaty enough for me but not Chase
  • I'm more energetic
  • Smaller portions make me feel better
  • Sliced squash makes a good substitute for noodles with Chicken Parmesan
  • I can live without pop...water rocks!
  • I cannot live without CHOCOLATE!!!
Good thing Dark Chocolate is supposedly healthy for you!!!

Hot Rollers!!!
Hot Rollers make for a simple and long lasting (depending on your hair type) due. For me, it takes longer to straighten than to curl. After I took out the rollers I divided the ringlets so they weren't huge and wound a few frizzy ones around my finger to give them prettier shape.  Throughout the day the curls loosened up so I tried not to do too much to them in the morning.
