Smith Edible Creations: Spring Edition

For the family reunion/grad party we went to for Chase's family, his mom saw the idea of making a fruit bouquet.

She cut the bottom of a watermelon off, about the size of a bowl. Then we put a variety of pieces of fruit on shish-kabob sticks. Once it was filled up with fruit we stuck the pointy end into the watermelon so it stood straight up. We stuck the first one in the middle of the watermelon then placed the following sticks around it covering the entire surface of the watermelon.

Party Nail!!

Awhile back, I saw the ring finger nail referred to as the "party nail." This transformation from ring finger to party nail happens once it is painted or designed different than the other finger nails. I couldn't wait to try it out!! This afternoon I went to Greystone Salon and Spa for my manicure!! Amazing place and people!!

Daddy-O

Most days I get an encouraging word from my dad through text!

Earlier this year, one of his texts made the difference between me going that afternoon to donate my hair and giving me that extra push to plan Cutting Out Cancer.

My most recent favorite came last week:

There is real magic in enthusiasm.
It spells the difference between
mediocrity and accomplishment.

Prom Hair-Do

I had the fun and honoring privilege of being asked to do a friend's hair for prom.

THE REQUESTS:
  • Bangs stay out of her face and eyes
  • Most of hair down
  • Smaller, tight curls

 THE RESULT:
  • We started with a Waterfall Braid on the side of the part that included the bangs.
  • Start off french braiding regular, so that the hair in front stays out of the face. The regular french braid will last for two to four pieces of hair.  From there, you continue to french braid the pieces that are being added from the top but when you add hair from the bottom you pick up new hair that you intend to add to the bottom piece.  Now here's the twist, instead of adding the piece of hair to the bottom section of hair you drop the bottom section of hair and braid the new piece in by itself.
  • Once the braid reached the crown of her head, we secured it with bobby pins and curled the rest of her hair with a half inch curling iron.

The Waterfall Braid gives the appearance of sections of hair falling between your braid.

The many views of the "Prom Hair-Do." Doesn't she look pretty!!

Avenging the Frog!

All of our scrumptious Sweet Frog treats!

Monday night, we went on a date night with some new friends.  We watched The Avenger's, which has given me a lot to talk to my students about the past few days.  Apparently, Hulk Smash bubbles at recess!

My fave scene: I loved it when Iron Man showed that he could be the hero that fought for something other than himself.  In doing so, he helped another superhero show his true hero colors.
I don't want to give away too much.
Some of the lines were cheesy but it was entertaining and funny.

Afterward, we headed over to Sweet Frog, the new frozen yogurt place in town.
If you haven't been, it's by Starbucks over near Chick-fil-a.
So MANY flavors and SO delish!!
Every town should have a frozen yogurt bar!

Fiesta~ing

Cinco De Mayo...what an awesome weekend for a party or better yet a birthday!

We kicked off my husband's birthday weekend by going to a show put on by the Charlotte Comedy Theater. If you are ever looking for a laugh in the Charlotte area they have shows Friday through Sunday, all improv comedy. It's located in The Music Factory area which includes a music hall that actually used to be a factory! How cool is that?! To see what a Charlotte improv show is all about click here.

Does he look 25 or what?

The best birthday present: SLEEPING IN, followed by "Oats and Toast" (Chase's fave and only breakfast option), then relaxing on the couch for a while before taking the dog to let off some energy.

That evening, we went to Sticky Fingers...D-licious!!
We actually went there for the first time on Valentine's Day.
Everything tasted just as yummy as the first time! If you want to go there for a birthday, they do give a free bread pudding served with ice cream. I had never heard of bread pudding before but we liked it.

Some friends invited us over to swim that night. Night swimming in a heated pool is so peaceful plus we had a great view of the Super Moon.

Well if you have a birthday coming up or just want to go on a date, try a few of those ideas, Chase enjoyed them for his bday (at least I hope so). Also, let me know some of your fave bday traditions.

Door Decorating!

At school, we had a door decorating contest. Everyone went all out decorating their door in a reading theme. Our halls have brightened considerably.
Here are a few of my faves.

The Cutest Door:

The Most Boyish Door:

My class worked together to find rhyming words about Spring, put them into sentences, and then make them into a poem. One of our students even drew the tree!!
